SIM Card Seizure FAQ
*Do not remove the stick from your computer while the program is running.
General Questions:
Does SIM Card Seizure support any GSM phone?
Yes and no. Yes, it will read the data on any GSM SIM card. However, not all phones store user data to the SIM card. For example, iPhones and BlackBerries store text messages and call logs within the phone memory so the data it reads will likely not be of any use to you.
What if my SMS messages are stored on my phone, not my SIM card?
We have a high end forensic product that allows you to easily download data from your cell phone directly. CLICK HERE for more information. We also have a service to extract data from cell phones. CLICK HERE for more information.
How far back will I be able to recover deleted text messages?
As with any deleted data, recovery depends on whether or not the information has been overwritten with new information. For heavy texters, deleted data may only be recoverable for a few days. For light texters, it may be recoverable weeks or even months later. If no new data is written to the SIM, recovery time can be indefinite.
Do you guarantee I'll recover my text messages?
No. Because of the many factors involved in deleted data recovery, we cannot guaranteed your specific messages will be recovered. Things to remember when trying to recover deleted text messages are: make sure the phone saves the messages to the SIM card (we can't recover data that was never there), remember new messages overwrite the space deleted messages take up on the card, recovery of only part of a message may occur.
Is it possible to wipe messages with SIM Card Seizure?
No! Providing the capability to change the contents of a card is dangerous for a program that is meant to produce evidence. Since SIM Card Seizure is truly a forensic program, we take every measure to prevent even one bit of data to change on the card.
How long time does it take?
Imaging (downloading the contents) a SIM card takes only a few minutes depending on the speed of the computer. The data is stored within an evidence file and can be viewed at any time. Since imaging is so easy, it might be a good idea to take "snapshots" of a card to be investigated at regular intervals.
Can SIMCon get the PIN or PUK codes?
PIN and PUK codes are not stored in files on the card. With SIM Card Seizure, you can enter the PIN or PUK to access the SIM card or you can choose to read the accessible files without any of the codes (which will contain almost no user data).
The PUK code (the master code) cannot be changed and is always stored by the service provider. It is therefore always possible to obtain the correct PUK code for a card from the service provider.
Can SIM Card Seizure read inactive cards?
SIM Card Seizure can read the contents of the card regardless of the subscription status. As long as you have the card, you can read it even if the subscription has been deactivated.
